Gil F. vs Chardy J.

Gil, 99th currently in the world with best career just last season when he reached a modest 62nd ATP. His main surface is clay where he got most of his important results so far. Nothing impressive so far this season, went to Chennai, Sydney and Australian Open before here and you can`t count the 3rd round at Melbourne because he beat two inconsistent players on hardcourt (outdoors), Dodig and Granollers just to lose to Tsonga in three sets. In the first round here at the chilean open he beat Lorenzi (1st time/1st meeting) and Andujar (4th time out of 6 meetings). On the other side, Chardy is recovering, he very much likes clay, 82nd in the world and he has a 7-1 record so far this season winning the Noumea challenger (hard) where he didn`t really have any challenge. Here at Vina del Mar he beat Prodon and L. Mayer in straight sets in the first two rounds, two claycourters.  So after 3 straight wins (all in 2008) for Chardy, Gil snapped the losing streak against the frenchman last year at the Bucharest Open beating him in three sets. My pick will still be on the Jeremy Chardy despite that, because I think he has a better moral and last but not least he beat the portuguese player before 3 times out of 4.
