A straight which consists of 5 cards in order but not of the same suit is the next highest hand which would be 3 of diamonds, 4 of clubs, 5 of hearts, 6 of clubs and 7 of clubs. A three of a kind, which means three queens or three kings, is the next highest hand. Two pairs which consist of two 7’s and two 9’s is the next highest hand which is followed by a single pair of aces to be the next highest hand. The last high hand on the ranking chart is high card which means an ace is the highest of any hand.  If at any time another player has the same hand, the player with the highest hand would win, but if you have identical cards, then you would split the pot. 

The next thing that you will need to learn on how to play poker is the poker blinds and antes. Different games have different blind structures but typically for Texas Hold’em you will have a small and big blind which will be paid by the two players in front of the dealer. The blinds will vary but usually if the minimum bet at the table is $10, then the small blind would be $5 and the big blind would be $10. Not all tables require an ante but if there is one, the amount will be owed by every player at the table and is often seen in tournaments.

Texas Hold’em is the most popular poker game and consists of players receiving two cards in which they do not show anyone. Once all players have received both cards you will need to place the amount of the big blind in order to stay in the hand. After every player has either called or folded, the dealer will then turn up three cards which is known as the flop. This is community cards meaning that all players can use these with their two cards in order to make the best possible hand. Another round of betting will take place before a fourth card - known as the turn - will be dealt by the dealer. This will be followed by another round of betting and the final card known as the river is dealt. Then a final round of betting will take place before all reveal their cards to determine the winner.

Another popular type of poker includes Omaha which is played a bit different than Texas Hold’em. Once the blinds have been paid, each player will be dealt 4 cards face down and then another round of betting will begin. Once each player has made their decision for this round the dealer will continue to deal the hand which is done the same as Texas Hold’em with a flop, turn and river. The betting will be the same for both games with just different cards being received. A winner will be determined after the last final round of betting is done.
